Spray metallizing is a cold application process in which molten zinc or aluminum is atomized and deposited onto an abrasive-blasted surface, forming a dense, adherent metallic coating.
The process is carried out after surface preparation to SA 2½ cleanliness. Zinc or aluminum wire is melted using an arc or flame spray system and propelled onto the substrate using compressed air. As the process is cold, it does not induce thermal distortion, making it suitable for thin sections, large assemblies, and on-site applications
Spray galvanizing provides sacrificial corrosion protection by allowing zinc to corrode preferentially, thereby protecting the underlying steel. Spray aluminizing offers superior resistance in high-temperature and high-humidity environments, particularly in marine and coastal applications.
